Description of Campfire

The 1969 film, The Prime of Miss Jean Brody, which starred Maggie Smith, had as its musical theme a song simply titled Jean. The version of that song with which I am most familiar was sung by Oliver Swofford (whose professional name was simply Oliver)and included this line: ‘the hills are ablaze with the moon’s yellow haze….”  That line was continually running through my head as I painted this picture (even though the tree was illuminated by the campfire as well as the moon, hence the picture’s title.  However, this painting gives me a chance to pay tribute to 2 of the major factors in the development of my own style, Bob Ross (black canvasses) and the Hudson Valley School (use of light in landscapes.)  TO
